CNN —Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton said that he’s fulfilling a “childhood dream” by joining Ferrari in 2025 in his first social media post since his sensational move away from Mercedes was announced on Thursday. “It’s been a crazy few days which have been filled with a whole range of emotions. But as you all now know, after an incredible 11 years at Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, the time has come for me to start a new chapter in my life and I will be joining Scuderia Ferrari in 2025,” Hamilton said on his social media channels on Saturday. “I feel incredibly fortunate, after achieving things with Mercedes that I could only have dreamed of as a kid, that I now have the chance to fulfil another childhood dream. The 39-year-old Hamilton, who shares the record for the most F1 world titles with Michael Schumacher, joined Mercedes in 2013 after beginning his career with McLaren in 2007.

CNN —Rumors and speculation are swirling as multiple UK outlets and racing publications are reporting that seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton is poised to leave Mercedes and join Ferrari for the 2025 season. Nothing has been formally announced, and none of the parties will confirm a deal is in place. CNN has reached out to Mercedes and Ferrari, who both declined to comment. CNN has also reached out to representation for Hamilton. However, in a shock move first reported by Sky Sports and Spanish media, Hamilton is now expected to leave Mercedes a year early to join Charles Leclerc at Ferrari for 2025, replacing Carlos Sainz.

CNN —And so the curtain falls on a Formula One season dominated by Max Verstappen and his Red Bull team, with the Dutchman securing a record-extending 19th victory of the year at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Never before has the sport seen a driver win with such regularity and ease, the three-time world champion again comfortably crossing the finishing line first at the season-ending race at the Yas Marina Circuit. Verstappen led from start to finish to secure his fourth win on the trot in Abu Dhabi. “It was an incredible season,” Verstappen told reporters. At one point, it seemed probable rather than possible that the team would win every race of the season, an outcome that faded away when Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz won the Singapore Grand Prix.

Unlike in many of the season’s previous races, however, Verstappen did not cruise to victory. Starting second on the grid, it wasn’t until lap 37 that the Dutchman passed Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to take the race lead. Verstappen said afterwards that the race was “definitely a lot of fun.”“It was a tough one. I tried to go for it at the start,” he told reporters of his attempt to pass Leclerc at Turn 1. Perez, however, did secure second place in the drivers’ championship to ensure Red Bull will end the season with a one-two in the drivers’ championship for the first time.

Asked if he was looking forward to this weekend, the three-time world champion was unequivocal, "No." "I just always want to focus on the performance side of things," shrugged Verstappen. "I am looking forward to trying to do the best I can, but not looking forward to this." Reporting by Steve Keating in Las Vegas.

REUTERS/Leonhard Foeger/ File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Ross Brawn is tipping a resurgent McLaren to take the fight to dominant Red Bull and triple world champion Max Verstappen next season. So, I think with that improvement going into next season they can be a real threat. Brawn was also optimistic Ferrari would improve under Fred Vasseur's guidance but recognised Red Bull would not be standing still and had the added benefit of being able to switch attention early to next year's car. Red Bull have so far won 19 of 20 races, with Verstappen triumphant 17 times -- a record for a single season that he can extend in Las Vegas this weekend -- and team mate Sergio Perez twice. I think sometimes when you get a team dominating you'd hope that both drivers would be fighting each other and that hasn't happened with Red Bull, which is a shame," said Brawn.

However, Red Bull Racing’s 2023 competitor, the RB19, has absolutely fried the system and blown past the boundaries of what appeared possible in this sport. Mark Thompson/Getty ImagesNewey has been designing F1 cars since 1988 and has won 12 Constructors’ Championships, split between his time at Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has described Newey as “the only bloke that can see air” in an interview with Red Bull. And Mercedes eventually ceded its position at the summit of F1 to Red Bull in 2022 after being in control for much of the turbo-hybrid era. But it does raise the question: how far can Red Bull go?

CNN —Lewis Hamilton will remain a Mercedes driver in Formula One until at least the end of the 2025 season after the team announced a contract extension on Thursday. Hamilton, who shares the record for most F1 world titles with Michael Schumacher (seven), joined Mercedes in 2013 after starting his career with McLaren in 2007. The 38-year-old owns the outright record for most race wins in F1 history with 103. In the Mercedes press release, Hamilton said, “We dream every day of being the best and we have dedicated the past decade together to achieving that goal. Hamilton’s teammate, fellow Brit George Russell, also extended his contract with the outfit until the end of 2025.

The German, then driving for Red Bull, completed the same feat during his 2013 title win. Alonso had started the race in fifth but – Verstappen aside – put on the driving performance of the day. “It was probably one of the more difficult races to win, but nine in a row is something I never even thought about,” said Verstappen. Red Bull boss Christian Horner was less coy about the achievements of his star man and indeed the team as a whole. Alain Prost and Vettel, five and seven race wins ahead of Verstappen as things stands, could be overtaken before the 2023 season ends given that nine races remain.

Hamilton's 104th pole position feels like a first
  + stars: | 2023-07-22 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
BUDAPEST, July 22 (Reuters) - Lewis Hamilton has had more pole positions than any driver in Formula One history, but the Briton's 104th in Hungary on Saturday still felt like a first. "It feels like my first pole, believe it or not," Hamilton said after beating Red Bull's runaway championship leader Max Verstappen by just 0.003 of a second. "It feels strange to say that when there's 104 but I don't remember the last time I had a pole, it feels so long ago." On Friday, when he was only 16th fastest, Hamilton said his car felt like the worst, but a day later and he was suddenly fastest -- in both final practice and qualifying after overnight tweaks. The pole lap, he said, had felt like he was hardly breathing.
